I guess my purchase of a PS3 has just been delayed. The PS3 is by far, the cheapest blue ray player on the market, but it is still more than I want to pay for a blue ray player. Sony has just announced, that despite the hard economic times and extreme competition, they will not be dropping the price of the PS3 now, or anytime soon.
“As we have stated previously, we do not have plans for a PS3 price drop, and any rumors to that effect are false and are the result of speculation. SCEA remains focused on the long-term momentum of PS3. With the industry’s best software lineup this year, combined with our most aggressive marketing campaign to date, we remain confident in our approach and the value we’re delivering with PS3.”
These rumors are started every few months or so. If it’s not the PS3, then it’s the Xbox 360. Where they get started is a mystery. The systems are already selling at a loss and a price drop is due to a lack of sales. The only way they make money back on the systems is through purchase of Xbox Live or downloads depending upon the system they are more or less successful at that. Games the second way that they can make money back on their systems.
I am going to have to hold out on purchasing the PS3. I only want it for the blue ray player as I am personally not a Sony gamer. Their games are weak in comparison. They have some decent graphics due to the blue ray though.
