GTAIV setting records across the board.

We all knew that after 3 and a half years of production, a crew of over 1,000 developers, and over 100 million dollars spent in production, that Rockstar was going to drop a bombshell when GTAIV finally released. The confidence and money they put into this game is now repaying them in a HUGE, huge way. The numbers are in, and records have been absolutely shattered. The records are as follows:

– Biggest Entertainment Release of All-Time
– Highest Grossing Video Game in 24 Hours
– Highest Revenue Generated by an Entertainment Product in 24 Hours

Within the first 24 hours of the games release they sold a ground-breaking 3.6 million copies, which in turn = 310 MILLION DOLLARS in the first 24 hours. That was absolutely un-head of.  To put into perspective the next leading video game in the record book is Halo 3 which sold $170 million. GTAIV ALMOST doubled that. To go with the other two records broken to also put into persepctive. The highest grossing movie in 24 hours was “Spider Man 2” grossing $60 million. Also, the highest selling book was “Harry Potter & The Deathly Hollows” which grossed $220 million. These gaudy numbers make GTAIV “the most profitable entertainment release of all-time.”

I think Rockstar, and it’s consumers are very pleased with this release. Numbers do not lie. Among the records being held it was also the most expensive game to ever be made to date. What an amazing feat for Rockstart to acheive. Start their company from the ground up, then put all this work, money, and time into one videogame and they’re getting highly rewarded for all their hard work.

I think we can all start a slow clap for Rockstar and it’s developers. They have earned these records, and have also earned their place in Video Game history.

Nice to see you back posting again. I’m surprised this game beat halo in some of these categories. Halo had so many reserved copies, not to mention the other copies picked up later that day without reserving it.
