Well, it’s been 3 and a half years since Nintendo released their latest handheld system, the DS. It’s only been 2 years since they re-designed the DS and made the DS Lite. 18 million, that’s how many units of these 2 hand helds have been sold in North America. 27 million, that’s how many have been sold in Japan.
Some may wonder, why have they sold so many? Well, and this is NOT an elitist thing to say, but there are people called “Nintendrones”. These people will buy a system, one of every color, collectors edition, and more just so they can say they have it. Now, the term is used very broadly and is usually used in Message Board flame wars, but the word pretty much sums up the people that spend their money on many things they already own.
The DS is a very popular handheld, so this possible rumor is not surprising in the least. Especially being that Nintendo has a record of re-desiging many times such as Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy SP, and Game Boy Micro. It was just a matter of time until we saw a new design for the ever popular Nintendo DS.
But when? Well, the rumor mill expects it to be announced and possibly released come E3 2008, which is usually when most big gaming headliners are revealed. So, we only have to wait for approximatley 3 months to see if this truth, or if this is bogus.
With Nintendo’s record though, as stated before, I wouldn’t sleep on this rumor.

Another way to look at this would be from a wider view point. A new hand held system would also put some pressure on Sony. They would have to worry about being 1uped by this new hand held and be forced to start on their own. Great post, and welcome to the blog.
